Mill Pond Jetty – at Botany

Mill Pond at Botany – 18mm, ISO 100, 30sec, f8.0

The Mill Pond Jetty is a remnant of Botany’s industrial past, but how do you do justice to it photographically?

These days, it’s function is to slowly rot in the middle of the pond and occasionally, usually in the morning as the sun rises, from the Botany Road Bridge, it can look almost idyllic. But that’s not the photo I wanted – I wanted something completely different.

First thought – a night shot – that’s different!

But which is better, moon, no moon with clouds, black & white or color.

Then there is the angle. At night the shot that is so beautiful at sunrise is just a fizzer, no foreground interest.

This one took four trips, entry into the modern industrial village (mostly offices these days) and again several friendly conversation with the patrolling security guards.

I can’t make up my mind as to which I like best the black&white or the color version so I have posted both, which do you like?

May your shutters be fast but quiet.

Until next time
